Barb Ryman: Music/Listen
Catch the Sunset
(Barb Ryman)
This is a song I wrote after one of my long westward road trips. I started wondering what was compelling me to always go west. I let that question swirl around in the creative pot of the great unconscious to see what came up and was gifted with "Catch the Sunset"
All my life I’ve been traveling west
Like a child I believed I could catch the sunset
Keep the night from descending
Keep the sword from defending
I believe in fairytales
I believe that Jonah was swallowed by the whale
I believe in words unsaid
All the lines in between are the ones I read
I’ve been swept here like a wave on the ocean
And I will admit to a strange devotion
To a way less known
Not sure how to get home
I believe in Dorothy’s cause
I believe in breaking the unwritten laws
Yellow roads & ruby slippers
I believe it all can change in just a whisper
Bridge:
There is a demon in my mind
He tells me to stay blind
He tells me not to get out of bed
His eyes are cold cold and red
Tongue sharp as steal
Telling me not to feel
I cast him out every morning
He returns in the night
I cast him out every morning
He returns
I don’t know why I go to these places
But I cannot put on those pasted on faces
And feel right in the world
I’m in search of the pearl
I believe in Beatle John
Big as Jesus and a lot more fun
As below so above
I believe in his song: All You Need Is Love
All my life I’d been traveling west
Like a child I believed I could catch the sunset
